Redfern’s Rubber Heels
Will sent me a picture that he’d taken with his mobile phone of a sign he’d seen by Chapel Market in Islington. I immediately assumed it would be the one I knew of which was only partially visible due to a recent whitewashing effort. I scrolled down the email to check the picture and the whitewashing looked to have gone.
The next day I cycled up to Grant Street where the sign is located and couldn’t believe my eyes. The company doing the restoration of the building had stripped back the new paintwork to reveal the old Redfern’s Rubber Heels sign with the slogan ‘Make walking a pleasure’.
